Fit and measuring
Choose the correct mount
Are roller shades the same as blinds?
No. Blinds are rows of thin slats. The slats run across the window or hang straight down. You tilt or turn them to let light in. A shade is one piece of fabric that goes up and down. A roller shade rolls up onto a tube at the top. Honeycomb shades fold up instead. Many people call all of these blinds. Ours are roller shades.
What makes a shade no-drill?
No-Drill Inside Mount presses on the sides of the frame. So there are no holes. The frame needs at least 3 inches of depth. Each shade is Cordless or Motorized.
Will it fit every window?
No. No-Drill Inside Mount needs at least 3 inches of depth in the frame. Check for locks or handles in the way. No room in the frame? You may need a shade with brackets. This is often needed on doors too. The builder shows the size range for each shade.
How do I measure?
First, choose your mount. For a no-drill shade, take three widths. Measure at the top, middle and bottom. Use the smallest. Take one height down the middle. Pick the exact size of the opening. Do not subtract anything. For a bracket shade, measure the width you want to cover. Take one height from where the top of the shade will go. Stop where you want the shade to end. Is the window extra wide? Measure height at both ends and use the longer.
Light and privacy
Match the fabric to the room
Should I choose 3% or 5% solar fabric?
For similar colors, 3% means a more screened view with stronger glare control; 5% keeps more of the view with gentler glare control. The percentage describes weave openness, not a heat-rejection rating.
Do solar shades give nighttime privacy?
Not reliably. When the room is brighter than outdoors, people may be able to see in. Consider a separate privacy solution when nighttime privacy matters.
Will blackout fabric make the whole room dark?
Blackout describes the fabric, not the whole installed window. Light can still enter around the shade edges. An Outside Mount does not automatically eliminate every light gap.

Do your shades have pull cords or chains?
No. Every shade is Cordless or Motorized, on both mounts. There are no cords or chains to pull. Read why we left them off.
What comes standard on every shade?
Every shade has a cassette on top, and inside mount is no-drill. Both bottom rails and all four hardware colors cost the same. Shipping to the lower 48 states plus DC is free on orders of $399 or more. Orders under $399 ship for $99. See why every shade has a cassette.
Which controls and bottom rails can I choose?
Choices depend on the collection and mounting method. Select a shade to see its control and bottom-rail options.
Will the screen color match my fabric exactly?
Colors can look different on a screen or in your room. The color on your screen may not match the fabric.
